Megan Matthews

Director | Office of Equity

she|her

Hi, my name is Megan Matthews, my pronouns are she/her and I love to hang out with friends and family and play volleyball outside of work. I am here because of the folks who supported me and gave me access along the way. I am a combination of my parents, family, friends, and colleagues who influenced me along the way.

I am in this because of the folks who came before me. I will do my part for the people I love and care about and the people I do not know who struggle because of a system that is not fair, that favors some and burdens others.

My gift is my ability to bring people together, to make people feel special and valued as a human being. I bring an ability to collaborate.

I expect people to produce, and I will advocate, champion, and support them along the way. I commit to using my privilege to remove barriers and influence state government to prioritize people over processes and fear. I will rely on qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate whether I am making a difference and adjust accordingly.

I am a work in progress. I do a lot of reflection when I receive new information. I really try to understand how I am perpetuating oppression and what I need to do differently to advance justice. I try and stay humble and ask others for feedback to make sure I'm not relying on my own judgment.

Our babies need us to act. So adults, yes adulting is hard, but who else can do it. We must. So let's do because there is no such thing as try.
