Equity Learning Series

We have launched our new monthly Equity Learning Series! These webinars will be geared towards increasing the knowledge, skills, and ability of us all within State Government. We do this to fulfill one of our main goals: delivering services equitably to meet the unique needs of every person in Washington.

We are currently working to schedule our 2025 webinar series schedule. Please check back for more information.

Curiosity is a Bridge for Connection

This month we partnered with Scott Shigeoka, internationally-recognized curiosity expert, TED speaker, and award-winning author of Seek: How Curiosity Can Transform Your Life and Change the World

During the Curiosity is a Bridge for Connection webinar, we looked at how we can strengthen our relationships to one another and build a sense of belonging. As a follow-up to this webinar, we have posted some additional talks provided by Scott. These will give attendees who participated in the webinar additional ways to deepen their learning, while providing first-time listeners a chance to be exposed to the content they missed.

Innovate the State: Washington Employees Earn Awards for Big Ideas

Ever think the state could be doing things better? Find out everything you need to know about the Productivity Board program run by the Office of the Secretary of State. They are looking for suggestions that reduce state spending and/or increase revenue so we can help the taxpayers get more bang for their buck. State workers who have their submission accepted can qualify for cash awards of up to $10,000. Program Manager Greg Mennegar will go over how it all works, how to sign up for the Innovate the State newsletter, and what big ideas have earned the most elusive achievement of all: Government Efficiency.

Washington for All: Serving our Customers

As public servants we must serve each customer or client with empathy and do our best meet their need. This standard exists even though we have complex laws and policies to navigate and programs that sometimes conflict with each other. We may also have a lot of people to serve each day. The people we serve need help and often are in a state of survival and our systems are dehumanizing to navigate.

What are some ways we can show up for every individual we serve? How can we help them navigate their current situation, removing barriers so they can achieve the future they want for themselves?

In this session, we discuss with Marisa Cairns, a Career and Training Specialist at Skill Source, how she does just that. Please join us to learn from her, and possibly share your tips, for providing excellent customer service.
