Hi, my name is Jasmine Remick, my pronouns are she/her/hers. Outside of work, I love spending time with my family exploring the PNW, gardening, and crafting.
I’ve been a part of State Government since 2013 after transitioning out of the military where I truly discovered what selfless service means and have incorporated this core Army value in all facets of my life.
Placing the safety, needs, and well-being of others above your own is the focal point of what public service means to me. Understanding how systemic racism has hindered the ability for one to excel and achieve their fullest potential has motivated me to answer the call; to be a part of the mission of dismantling systemic racism in State Government.
This work is personal to me because of the limitations and lack of opportunities I’ve encountered along my journey. I want to make a difference in our communities and state service so no one person experiences similar constraints as I have. I believe in the mission of the Office of Equity, to identify and remove barriers that limit equitable outcomes for Washingtonians and be the leading example in the nation for other states to adopt/follow.
As a Veteran, we never stop serving. I intend to carry out my second mission – to bridge the gap between community and state agencies for universal access and belonging for all.
To support pro-equity, anti-racism in State Government, I offer my superpower - my drive, passion, and ability to work hard under pressure, especially in times of uncertainty.
I pledge to serve as a conduit between interagency personnel and the community by prioritizing goals and implementing effective strategies around diversity, equity, and inclusion; to facilitate systems and policy change that enhances a state of Belonging.
I am committed to providing guidance and technical assistance to agencies to promote more equitable decision-making practices and foster a learning environment in what it means to be an equitable, anti-racist state. I commit to facilitating safe dialogue to accompany Washington on the roadmap of Belonging.
I will know if I am successful through accountability; by helping to develop customized qualitative and quantitative (disaggregated) data that will reflect agency performance goals and community achievement.
I have been complicit in upholding systemic racism by not being brave enough to confront microaggressions or unfair practices in the workplace. Too often, I’ve experienced these poor behaviors in the workplace that are overlooked and ‘swept under the rug’.
To actualize undoing oppression, racism, and advancing equity and belonging in my personal journey, I am committed to being courageous and intentional about my role dismantling systemic racism.
My vision for a just and equitable future in which all people have access to the resources, power, and opportunities to live, succeed, and thrive is to change the trajectory of negative statistics that affect minority populations in terms of health, economic opportunity, education, employment, housing, and ownership.
Reforming how we do state business through self-reflection and accountability in our policies, programs, and decisions can and will bring Washington to a state of reconciliation, access, prosperity, justice, and empowerment for all.
