What

The PEAR (pro-equity anti-racism) Pledge is your commitment to actualizing PEAR- making it real for Washingtonians. Think about what action item you can take to make PEAR and belonging substantial in your role. How can you ensure that the citizens you serve feel as though they belong when they interact with you?  How can you positively impact them? If your role isn’t front facing, how can you aid in your agency or office creating a culture of belonging guided by PEAR? This is your time to make a bona fide dedication toward the goal of Washington becoming the first belonging state in the nation. Because it will take the work of us all, think deeply about your contribution and set your intention to be action oriented and timely.

Why

Transformation of government can’t be done by a handful of employees. We each need to examine the work we do and define how we can do it in ways that promote equity and belonging. One action is the start, but once you accomplish that, find ways to add to your pledge. Be proactive in your promise to be equitable; in your promise to serve Washingtonians in the best way possible; in your promise to a part of the solution.

How

Make the commitment and assess yourself: How will you know if you were successful? How will you evaluate yourself and hold yourself accountable? Establish it, commit to it, achieve it, and repeat with a new goal.

You are needed now.
